Winter Time Water Wonderland

When we went to my inlaw’s house for Thanksgiving, we didn’t give much thought to any water pipes freezing that early in the season. Well, there was bad cold spell in Washington while we were in Florida. Thankfully the pipe that froze and burst must have happened just the day before we got back, but when got home, the pipe under our kitchen sink was still spewing water. The only good thing was that our home was old and the slight slope in the kitchen floor was allowing the water to slowly drain underneath the back door and outside so the water was not accumulating that much.

We still ended up having to call in water damage Washington DC to come out and look at the whole thing. My husband got the water off and we managed to sweep most of the water out the back door before they got there, but we knew there could be floor, cabinet and wall damage. They made sure the water was completly dried out and took precautions against mold. We didn’t have to repalce any sheet rock because the water never got over the baseboards and wasn’t in there that long, but we were just plain lucky.
