The Value Of Crazy Ideas

Don’t hold back when brainstorming. Often there is more to crazy ideas  than you might think. For example, during a brainstorming session many years ago, someone at a shoe manufacturer imagined shoes with eyes on them. That seemed useless, but it triggered a thought in another participant in the session. He realized that though shoes don’t need to see, it would be good for them to be seen. Specifically, he was thinking about how joggers are not always visible to drivers. Eventually this lead to the idea of having reflective strips on running shoes – an idea that has almost certainly saved a few lives. So work with those crazy ideas to see if they might lead to something useful.
